Summary of the Experience

Have been working in the field of Information technology with main responsibilities of UNIX System and Storage Engineer since 2003 (approximately seven years) with the environments comprise of

1.       Configuration and deployment of HPUX 11i on HP-UX PA-RISC and Itanium based Superdome 9000, MC Service Guard cluster setup and configuration of CA/BC on using Raid Manger software across High end storages.

2.       Configuration of Sun Solaris 9 ,10 and Sun Cluster on  Sun SPARC Servers (Sun Microsystems M5000, SF E6900, E6800 ,V890 ,V490 T2000, Ultra Enterprise 450, Sun Microsystems Enterprise 250, 1 etc)

3.       Managed both HP & EMC high-end and mid-range storages, like XP 12000, EVA 5000, and EMC Clarion CX4-480, CX4-240, EMC Centera, Celerra and NAS boxes.

4.       Designed and configured Fabrics for SAN HA and VSAN setup/administration using MDS 9513 SAN Directors, Port channel configuration both from command line and Fabric Manager.

5.        Configuration of Sun Solaris 9 ,10 and Sun Cluster on  Sun SPARC Servers (Sun Microsystems M5000, SF E6900, E6800 ,V890 ,V490 T2000, Ultra Enterprise 450, Sun Microsystems Enterprise 250, 1 etc)

6.       Administration and configuration of RHEL, RHAS, and Fedora Red hat Linux Project   on Intel based server on DELL & HP Systems and blade Enclosures.  Also worked on Red Hat Cluster, LVM and GFS files systems.

7.       VOIP Asterisk PBX, IVR setup, worked in IAX2 and SIP protocols TDM400P Hardware ATA’s, Preview/Predictive Dialers for VOIP, Auto Dialers (call center setup)

20th June 2008 till now (TELENOR)

            TELENOR Pakistan is second largest fastest growing Telecom mobile operator in Pakistan. Secondly it is most important member of TELENOR GROUP (www.telenor.com) which is a leading telecommunications services provider worldwide. Currently I am working as Systems Specialist and key areas of my responsibility are following.

HP-UX Platform

1.       Optimized configuration of HPUX 11 I v1, v2,v3 on  Itanium and PA-Risk based systems like HP Superdome 9000, RX600 and RP servers installed with.

2.       Configured Virtual and Hard partitions (nPar, vPar) on mid range integrity systems/blades as well as on high-end machines like HP Itanium Superdome 9000.

3.       Implemented MC Service Guard for both Geo and Campus Cluster. Additionally achieved compliance and integration of GWLM (ICAPS, GICAPS) for resource sharing between nPars and vPars in GWLM domains. Furthermore enabled shifting of Cores (RTUs licenses) resource across remotes sites by efficient designing and implementation of GWLM polices integrated with Service guard packages.

4.       Configured HP virtual machines on Integrity systems like RX 6600.

5.       Accomplished HP-UX performance monitoring, kernel tuning, configuration OS Patch clusters on different version of HP-UX 11i like v2 and v3.

6.       Administered LUN presentation from EVA 5000 storage array to HP-UX hosts, and online Files system extension using Online JFS.

7.        Managed LVM and VXVM volumemanagers for efficient configuration of file systems. Configured    striped logical volumes for better IO performance, furthermore achieved IO load balancing and storage HA for high end applications like SIEBEL CRM using LVM alternative paths.  

8.       Administered XP 12000 Storage array and achieved Excellency in presentation of LDEV, LUSE creation and File system Extension on HP-UX OS. Configured XP CA, BC and Raid Manager for Metro clusters.

9.       Adapted IGNITE UX for OS disaster recovery and Hp Secure/auto Path for SAN HA purpose and HP APA configuration for network load lancing.

10.   Configured services like IP Filters, remsh, CIFS, NFS, trusted systems for security purpose.

11.   Programmed bash, Perl, AWK and SED scripts for proactive system monitoring and administrative purpose.  

12.   Worked on Cisco MDS 9000 and Fabric Manager form zoning and SAN Security, Especially implemented Core-Edge design across two sites using CWDM and Dark fiber connectivity in between. In addition to above also configured Port-channels and EISL. In case of Brocadeswitches configured Inter-operability, access gateways and failover groups as well.   

13.   Configuration of RMAN/File systems backup on HP Data Protector Ver. 5.5 using ESL 512e Library.

14.   Assisted Database, Application and Security teams on respective platforms, like SIEBEL, GENEVA and other telecoms applications.

15.   Supervised and trained team resources on different projects and tasks.

Major Projects

1.       Itanium Consolation and upgrade : (Migrated all platform from existing PA RISC superdome to Itanium Superdome)

2.       VSAN upgrade to Cisco MDS 9513 SAN Directors.

3.       Data Center migrations and DR site setup.

SUN Platform

1.       Optimized & customized configuration of Sun Solaris 10 on SUN SPRAC based systems (M5000,  SF E6900, E6800 ,V890 ,V490 T2000, Ultra Enterprise 450, Sun Microsystems Enterprise SF 250) 

2.       Configured SUN Cluster 3.1 & 3.2 in active-passive more (failover scenario).Furthermore enabled monitoring or Oracle databases, listeners and third party applications though GDS scripts. Additionally managed Resource group and resource of cluster as per requirements of application and DB team. 

3.       Configured MPXIO for Storage HA of LUNs presented from SAN. In addition to its also integrated HP Secure Path with Solaris 10 & 9 for HA purpose to avoid single point of failure for LUNs presented  form SAN.

4.       Presentation of LUNs & Creation of Raid5 & Raid10 profile, pools and volumes via SUN StorageTek Common Array Manager on following storages. ST 6140, 6130, 3350 2530 etc.

5.       Administered VERITAS volume manager and VERITAS file systems, Online File system extension and management of VXFS files system.

6.       Worked on SVM (Solaris Volume Manger) for creation /expansion of volumes using Meta db & Meta devices for creation of Raid volumes, Raid 0, 1, 5 etc.

7.       For Backup/Restore purpose worked on VERITAS NetBakup (SL 500, SL100).created polices for Manual /Schedule File system and DB backups. 

8.       Used   awk, bash, sh and Perl scripting for system Administration. And NFS for file system sharing and raidcl for hardware raid etc.

9.       Configured IPMP groups for Network multi PATHING both in standalone and on Clustered nodes.

10.   Administration of Many Platform like NEXUS, OPTIMA, DMS/DSTK, Evident/Provident.

11.   Administered VERITAS cluster for monitoring Databases and application HA.

October 2006 to 19th June 2008 (COMSATS   ISP)

            Worked as Assistant Director Systems at  COMSATS Internet Services, COMSATS Headquarters Building 9, Shahrah-e-Jamhuriat, G-5/2 Islamabad 44000 Pakistan http://www.comsats.net.pk. This is pioneer Internet Service provider in Pakistan.

1. Administration and Managing of Data center Application, along with technical support to other regional Nodes (like Karachi, Lahore) via SSH /telnet.
2. Sun Solaris 9/10  is installed and managed here both on  Sun SPARC Servers  and Intel X86 Machines
3. Managing Antispam /Antivirus email gateway services like, Symantec Mail Security for SMTP, Trend Micro, SpamAssassin, ClamAv, spam-milter etc on Linux/Sun Solaris Operating systems.
4. For Administration of   Data storage of Solaris worked on both hardware /software Raid, Volume Manager (State Database, RAID-0 (Stripe and Concatenation), RAID-1 (Mirror Volumes), Raid 5 on both sun SPARC, Solaris X86 machines and Linux.
5. Radius Servers configuration for authentications of Dialup /DSL clients,
6. Administration of DNS, Multiple Master/Slave Name servers for more than 1000 domains hosting.
7. Tape disk Backup and restorations   most of  works is done with bash, sed, awk scripts on DDS4 and Ultrium LTO Tape disks,  and Different shell scripts menu for support team to handle queries.
8. For Network Monitoring Installed and configured OpenNMS, net-snmp, MRTG to monitor traffic and various system related parameters like CPU usage, memory usage, and load average. Also Notification via emails is implemented.
9. Worked on complete Backup Recovery plain to categorize the areas of daily, weekly backup, System root password recovery and data recovery.
10. Monitoring logs, schedule jobs, user rights, Linux Iptables firewall, tcp wrappers
11. Worked on MTA and MDA like Sendmail, Qmail, Postfix Openwebmail , Qpopper, imap ,procmail , maildrop , SMT Auth    on  both  Sun SPARC and linux Operating systems.
12. Also had keep on updating system +applications by installing patch upgrades, hot fixes and version upgrades when necessary to make our data less vulnerable

1. Have worked on many projects with different clientage like   mail.pac.org.pk  (PAC KAMARA ) ,isb. aiou.edu.pk( AIOU ), mail.comsats.edu.pk  (CIIT) where  Mail + ISP setup configuration  are optimize according to  needs of  clients

Location: - Suit # 303 Block 56-F Nazimuddin Road, F-6/1 Islamabad .My duties here as System /Network Administrator were followings.

1          Web hosting management on dedicated servers, which are UNIX based.

2         To manage/configure LINUX (Red hat 6.2, 7, 8, 9, fedora core 1, 2,3,4 Debain 3.0, Sun Solaris 10, FreeBSD, Centos OS 4.5) on remote dedicated Servers.

3         All the services like firewall ,DHCP, DNS, Send mail, procmail and Apache1.x and apache2, ApacheJserv with curl, openssl, Mod_perl , MySQL ,PHP,NTP

4         Here mainly all of configurations on remote dedicated servers is done via SSH, Putty. Moreover protected pages are being managed via htpasswd and ACL. 6         Asterisk VOIP Server:  IVR management, call queuing /waiting for inbound calls, call transferring, Call conferencing, recording, music on hold, Call forwarding, voice mail Preview/Predictive /Auto Dialers.

7         DNS implementation (primary, secondary and cache only) ,Mail Scanner, SpamAccession and clamAV antivirus for email as well as serverto make stop unwanted emails. Also configured Webmail like HORDE, Squirrelmail, Open webmail etc.

8         Rdist ,Rdistd rsh rlogin, cron jobs atq, FTP, SFTP, SCP ,Backup Recovery plane to categorized the areas of daily, weekly, full and cold partial of databases like MySql.NFS, DHCP and samba servers there. Kernel

10     Woked on net-snmp , MRTG , web stat (webalizer), Awstats to analyze bandwidth utilization, hits, no of visitors per hour ,per day and per months .
